Mechanical Noise Control - reducing noise from machinery Think of the effect of a noisy airconditioning system in a new concert hall. Mechanical noise control is a vital but often neglected part of many new projects. Design Acoustics will establish appropriate mechanical noise design criteria - a corridor does not need to be as quiet as an office. We review the proposed HVAC system design, taking into account noise sources (e.g. fans, mixing boxes, diffusers) and losses (e.g. silencers, duct lining). Mechanical and electrical equipment within plantrooms needs to be isolated from the building structure and vibration isolated. Walls and floor/ceiling assemblies may need to be upgraded to minimise noise transmission to adjacent spaces. We will also review external mechanical noise sources, such as chillers and cooling towers, and the likely noise levels at the site boundary. We will propose options to reduce noise and vibration where required. Design Acoustics © 2005 |
