Who Are We?

Design Acoustics Ltd was established by Tony Windner (BArch) in Tauranga 2003. Tony has over 14 years experience as an acoustic consultant in New Zealand, the USA and the UK.

Peter Horne (BEng) recently returned from the United States to establish Design Acoustics Auckland Ltd. He has over 10 years experience as an acoustic consultant in New Zealand and the USA.

Environmental Noise - outdoor noise affecting neighbours

Environmental noise may be generated by a variety of noise sources, including:

• transportation noise, e.g. road, rail, aircraft noise

• mechanical and electrical equipment, e.g. factories, HVAC and refrigeration, transformers

• music and people, e.g. cafes, bars, outdoor concerts, sports events

City and District Plans in New Zealand usually specify environmental noise limits. Companies, organizations or individuals who generate noise which may affect neighbours are likely to need advice about allowable noise levels and how to reduce or mitigate noise at neighbouring properties. Councils may require an acoustic assessment report to assist the planning approval process.
